\"\"<\/a>I wish I could be an Interactor all the time!\u00a0 In fact, I guess I\u2019ve been wanting that for so long (I\u2019ve been with Workplace Interactors since its inception nearly 14 years ago) that it has started seeping into my daily life.\u00a0 I had a great experience with my friend \u201cCassie\u201d that used my Interactor training.<\/p>\n

Cassie\u2019s normally pretty calm, but this day she was rattled when she called me.\u00a0 She had a friendship with \u201cBarbara\u201d that needed to be ended.\u00a0 Things had never gone right between her and Barbara, but Barbara didn\u2019t seem to mind.\u00a0 I was pretty surprised they ever hung out at all, because I know Barbara fairly well too.\u00a0 She has a strong and somewhat difficult personality.\u00a0 Cassie was stressed about how this next conversation with Barbara might go.\u00a0 I asked her, \u201cWould you like to practice it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d Cassie asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour conversation with her.\u00a0 You know that\u2019s what I do, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, man.\u00a0 That makes me nervous\u2026\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re already nervous, so who cares?\u00a0 It can\u2019t hurt,\u201d I coaxed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess,\u201d Cassie relented.<\/p>\n

We had already discussed what she wanted to say, and I told her how I had learned that making \u201cI\u201d statements really helps.\u00a0 \u201cMake sure you don\u2019t accuse her, just tell her how you feel and what you need.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOK\u2026I\u2019ll do it!\u201d Cassie said excitedly.<\/p>\n

So we practiced the situation, and as I began to really commit to Barbara\u2019s personality, I pushed Cassie\u2019s buttons.\u00a0 That was when the conversation turned tense and then ended.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you think that went?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt started OK, but then, I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 It went pretty much the same as it always goes between us\u2026man, you\u2019re really good at that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d I chuckled.\u00a0 \u201cDo you realize that you did exactly what you said you wouldn\u2019t do when I pushed your buttons?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWha- wait, no\u2026yes, I did didn\u2019t I!\u201d\u00a0 Cassie said.<\/p>\n

And the light bulb came on, just like in Workplace trainings time after time!\u00a0 What a joy to truly impact people\u2019s lives where they may need it the most\u2014in the difficult conversations of life.<\/p>\n

My friend lost all anxiety about the situation, and the relationship with Barbara is all cleared up!<\/p>\n

I can think of so many applications for Workplace Interactor training (counseling and mock interviews, to name a few) and I hope we get the opportunity to help people in many different venues in many different situations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
